Boredom is taking over on almost all households amidst the series of lockdown orders, and this is becoming a huge impact on the health of many, keeping people immobile, especially those that live in tight spaces. People are living a sedentary life. Tummies are bulging, and arms getting flappy. Numbers are going up, from the heart rate, blood pressure, and weight. This lockdown is taking everybody's fitness down. We can’t go out the road to run and sweat, but we can stay home to dance. This is the beauty of technology. We get to do the things we love to do while keeping ourselves safe from the virus infection. We can do the Zumba remotely all together while on social distancing. Who can resist the party vibe of a Zumba dance!
Zumba is a fitness workout that makes use of Latin-inspired music and dance where participants can greatly enjoy and move to the groove of salsa, flamenco, and cha-cha while having aerobics. It feels more like a fun dance party than a typical workout. If it’s aerobics, or in fitness lingo “cardio,” it means that you’ll breathe harder and your heart beats faster! It's as intense as a bike ride or long jog! And what’s exciting is that this kind of aerobic workout counts as meeting the aerobic guideline for physical activities, that is as long as you’re doing it at a moderate- or vigorous-intensity, you’re all good!
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services suggests that adults aged 18-64 years old should participate in a moderate-intensity aerobic exercise of at least 150-minute duration or a comparable 75-minute total duration of vigorous-intensity spread out through the week with at least 10-minute duration per session. Intensity is how hard your body is exerting an effort. A moderate-intensity aerobics means you’re working hard enough to raise your heart rate and sweat. While a vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, on the other hand, means that you’re breathing hard and faster with your heart rate up quite a bit. You can do either do moderate- or vigorous-intensity aerobic activity, or try mixing the two, each week.
Zumba is a great way to engage in fitness. Not only that it’s an excellent workout, but it can also shed out a large number of your calories. It’s estimated that a 154-pound person can lose 330 calories within an hour of dancing and can slash about 480 calories in an hour of vigorous aerobic exercise. That’s extremely a huge number.
So, while this pandemic is still rampaging the globe, don’t allow it to get on our way and ruin our fitness. We have our ways and technology is on our side. We can do Zumba online. Set the date, choose a sound, turn on the music, and let’s do the Zoomba!
